20th Broadstone Quarter Marathon

New Year's race has Geoff on the run
When the Broadstone Quarter Marathon celebrates its 20th running this New Year's Day there will be two men present who have been involved in every staging of the road race.
Runner Geoff Scott has managed to pull on his training shoes each January 1 to tackle the six-and-a-half mile race since the inaugural event in 1986.
The veteran athlete has even run with a heavy cold, and on mornings when he has had little sleep due to partying the night before to celebrate the arrival of a new year.
Geoff is the only competitor to compete in all the previous 10 races, and he intends to make it 20 this Saturday.
For John Rhoden, a fellow member of the Poole Runners, it will be his 20th year in charge as race director.
He said:"With the help of the Poole Runners and the support of Broadstone Sports Centre, which does all the administration, the race has never had to be cancelled."
"The only day when it wasn't held on January 1 was in 2000 when we had it on the second."
"The distance is very popular now with runners.
And I could not do the race without the support of Richard Dean doing the results and chief marshal Dave Hayes."

ROAD RUNNER: Broadstone Quarter Marathon race director, John Rhoden and Geoff Scott from Poole Runners who has taken part in all of the races over the past 20 years.
Geoff said: "I've done every race, even on the years when I've crept home at 4am the night before I've still come down.  It is a good way to start the year from a running point of view."
Entries for this year's race, which starts at 11am, will be taken on the day.  The event is from the Broadstone sports centre, in Station Approach, and consists of two laps along Lower Blandford Road and Gravel Hill.
